Webmaster & SEO Tools

Welcome to wwwpogogamnet.blogspot.com
A while back I created some SEO tools for my own personal use in order to help me with my search engine optimization efforts. At the request of several friends in the community, I made the main tool (the Bad Neighborhood Link Checker) public, so that anyone who was concerned about who they were linking to could enjoy the benefit of it, and this site was born. Since then I have added a few more here and there, as the need arose. From time to time I will be adding to this collection. These tools will consist of either variations on existing ones that are currently out there, with select additional options/upgrades, or ones that perform niche functions that as of yet do not exist.
For descriptions of the various tools, articles concerning tips and tricks for SEO and webmastering in general, and reviews of tools on other sites, please visit the Bad Neighborhood Blog.
I do love to program, so if you have an idea for a script that you would think would be a good fit for this site, please feel free to contact me and let me know what it is.

Trustworthy Web 2.0 Backlinks

Trustworthy Web 2.0 Backlinks

In Web 2.0, linking is the primary way in which websites and web pages interact with one another. It’s how search engines measure the relevance and value of a given page. The quantity and, perhaps more importantly, the quality of the backlinks that point to your site thus has a huge effect on your search engine rankings.
What are Backlinks?
Backlinks are basically links that are incoming to a website. This means any link received by a web node (e.g. a web page, website, directory, top-level domain) from another web node. Backlinks are also known as inbound links, inward links and inlinks.
Search engines use backlinks as one of the primary measuring tools for ranking websites. Google analyses every single backlink that its spiders encounter. The search engine determines a site’s ranking in large part according to the number of backlinks that point to that site and how “trustworthy” those backlinks are, relative to other competing sites that offer the same information.
While we don’t know exactly how the algorithms used by the major internet search engines to determine page rank work, we know that they take into account three key factors when analysing a website’s backlinks: the number of links, their relevance to the search and their quality.
What makes a trustworthy link?
If you set out to get as many links as possible without being too picky about where those links come from, it might actually backfire on you. This is because search engines are fairly sophisticated when it comes to analysing links. Links that come from your own affiliated domains and links that come from sites that are completely irrelevant to the services and information that your website offers are not going to do you much good in terms of search engine rankings, even if you have a large quantity of them.
What you want to do is get links from sites that (a) have good reputations and (b) are relevant to your business. If a website that links to your site is itself popular, it will have more weight on your ranking than other, less popular links. Syndicated news sites, popular blogging sites and major social networking sites are examples of links that you want to go after. When it comes to more industry-specific links, make sure to get links from sites that are relevant to yours. Sites that users who are interested in your content might like to read through as well. If you have pet care site, it makes no sense to get backlinks from golfing sites, for example. Search engines will notice.

SEO High Ranking Tips for Webmasters

SEO High Ranking Tips for Webmasters

When you’re making a website for potential clients, visitors, or buyers, there’s a hidden “person” you’re trying to impress too: the search engine. Impressing it isn’t easy, but you can start by putting your site in a form that it can read. Read up on how to put together a decent sitemap, and send that sitemap off to the major search engines so they’ll have you in their systems.
If you’re looking to make it easy for search engines to crawl your site, refrain from using complex Flash graphics or Javascript coding and effects. These tend to confuse a search browser, and when the algorithm gets confused, it doesn’t shoot your site to the top of the rankings.
Search engines have a complicated set of algorithms to determine which sites are worthwhile and which sites nobody wants to see.
To broadcast a good reputation for your site, try to get as many backlinks as you can from reputable, quality, well-travelled websites. In addition to maybe getting their visitors, you’ll show Google, Yahoo and Bing that you’re legitimate, and your SEO ranking will go up accordingly.
When you put your content together, search engines want to see that it’s relevant to the words people are searching for. The way they do this is to crawl your site for “keywords.” Make sure you repeat certain keywords several times throughout each piece of content. Don’t have too high a keyword density – 1-3% is usually good for getting a page noticed. Anything more and Google’s algorithms may penalise your website for it.
All the SEO ranking tips in the world won’t help you if your content isn’t any good. Aside from writing interesting fresh content that people will want to read, your site should be large, and it should be frequently updated. If a site has lots of content, is updated every other day, with frequent repeat visitors, search engines will know that it’s a winner, and they’ll boost you to the top of the search ranking accordingly.
